NOS Silvertone UX-201-A / 201A / 01A Four-Pin Radio Triode -- Strong, Quiet Triplett 3444 Test -- Original Box

A well-preserved new-old-stock Silvertone UX-201-A, also known as the 201A or 01A, in its original vintage Sears Silvertone box. The tube was removed from the box only for careful inspection and testing.

This example produced an excellent result on a Triplett 3444, testing at approximately 1,000 µmhos—well above the published Triplett average of 730 µmhos and the 470-µmho reject point.

Verified Triplett 3444 results

Transconductance: approximately 1,000 µmhos

Published average: 730 µmhos

Published reject point: 470 µmhos

Shorts: None detected

Leakage: None detected

Intermittent behavior: None detected

Noise: None detected during the noise test

Microphonics: None detected during the microphonics test

The tube remained stable throughout testing and demonstrated strong electrical performance with a clean noise and microphonics evaluation.

Intended applications

The UX-201-A is a classic directly heated, general-purpose storage-battery triode designed for use as both a detector and amplifier. RCA documentation identifies it for detector service, radio-frequency amplification, and early audio-frequency amplification.

It may be suitable for compatible:

1920s battery-operated radio receivers

Tuned-radio-frequency, or TRF, receivers

Regenerative receivers

Detector stages

Radio-frequency amplifier stages

Early audio-amplifier stages

Vintage radio restoration and period-correct experimental projects

Please verify that your equipment is designed for the UX-201-A, 201A, 01A, or an approved equivalent, with the correct four-pin UX socket and operating requirements. The UX-201-A uses a directly heated 5-volt, 0.25-amp filament.

Condition and transparent disclosure

The glass envelope is intact, the black base is secure, and the four pins present well for their age. The extensive bright silver getter flashing remains intact and gives the tube a distinctive early-radio appearance.

When the tube is gently moved, an audible rattle can be heard from loose material within the glass globe. The sound is not coming from the base. The rattle was present during testing; the tube nevertheless tested strongly and remained stable, with no shorts, leakage, intermittent behavior, noise, or microphonics detected during the Triplett 3444 evaluation.

The tube has not been operated for an extended period in a radio or amplifier. The stated results reflect the completed Triplett 3444 electrical, noise, and microphonics tests.

The original Silvertone box is included. It displays genuine age-related shelf wear, edge wear, discoloration, and an old Sears retail-store price label. Please examine the photographs, which show the exact tube and box being offered.
